After teaching The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini we moved on to teaching Human Rights. We have spent three weeks learning about Human Right's issues around the world. The whole idea behind this part of the unit was to become aware of issues that we didn't know about before or that we wanted to learn more about. For the final form of presenting students had a choice of either doing spoken word, a video or doing a photo story. The students loved that it was a project they owned and they were able to make the decisions about the message they wanted to send. I also decided to make my own video raising awareness about an issue that has to do with the rights of students. After all I am an educator and what I most want is for students to be aware of the discrepancies in education that are not always addressed by the people in power.
